According to the ancient theorists dreams are authentic experience of the soul which during sleep becomes detached from the physical body and roams both in heaven and earth.
Dreams are a natural part of our inner growth and development and helps in maintaining balance between various aspects of personality. They connect conscious with the unconscious and are valuable insights to our psyche. Dreams talk to us in pictorial languages…mostly in images symbols etc.
Freud believed that a dream represented an ongoing wish along with the previous day’s activities. They may even portray wishes that have been inside us since early childhood. In fact, he believed, every dream is partially motivated by a childhood wish. Another interesting idea was that nothing is made up during a dream and that they are biologically determined, derived completely from instinctual needs and personal experience.
According to his theory of dream occurrence Dreams occur in a state of "ego collapse" when the demands of the Id (imperative bodily needs) and Superego (conscience ego ideals) converge upon the Ego (personal desires and mediator between the Id and Superego). In easier terms, a dream will occur when the unconscious wish is bound to the preconscious instead of just being discharged. Recurring Dreams usually reflect what's been happening in your life for thelast 24-48 hours. Even though the dreams may seem to be about thepast or the future, they are all triggered by the recent experiences youhad during those two days.Sometimes dreams feature the past schools you went to, homesyou lived etc.
Q: I am an 35 year old man .I often dream of going to a hair dresser and changing hair style…and at the same time dream that I am losing my hair. What does this signify?

In the Hindu tradition hair is a symbol of the soul because it grows out of the head, the place of consciousness.
